October 2021, I was reading various scientific hypotheses of how the Big Bang came about. It is quite clear that the scientific community does not want to let go of the infinite universe principle. The multiverse is a current favorite where we are just one of many universes that simply “pop into existence” like a virtual particle appearing from the quantum energy field. A recent proposal was that the universe expands to the point that the only thing it can do is “recycle” with another Big Bang. No one deals with the elephant in the room. What was the Ultimate Beginning?

What is Nothing? Lawrence Krauss wrote a book with this catchy but suspicious title. In the book, there is one sentence in which he admits that there had to be something. I started with “absolutely nothing”. No space, no time, no quantum energy, no particles, and no vacuum energy fields. It just sits there. Nothing comes from nothing – by definition. One must propose that there is a bare minimum. A Basic Nothingness or Barely Nothingness.

To be causal, one of the most basic concepts in science, there must be a time flow. Two follows from one, and three follows from two, and so on. To have something exist, it must have dimensions of space. We are sure there are three. There must be the property that “elemental things” can pop into existence. One final property is that of “randomness”.

The Basic Nothingness exists in an infinite region and there are an infinite number of sub-regions that are also infinite. Each of these sub-regions can go through being filled (and perhaps emptied) of elemental things. In this scenario, we have an infinite number of random “universes” popping into existence, where the Law of Large Numbers can be applied to say some of these may have just the right properties to evolve, expand, and have significant emergent properties that create complexities of interest. For example, a universe like ours pops into existence but has equal amounts of matter and anti-matter. The universe ends up with a lot of energy and not much more. This would be one of an infinite number of failures to evolve. Alternatively, there might be a universe very similar to ours but has a problem with the physical constants that prevents carbon from being able to form complex proteins. It will be lifeless.

A Physical Universe from Barely Nothingness: If our universe sprang suddenly from the Barely Nothingness, then in one tiny dot at time zero there was an immense array of complex entities and properties. There was no evolution of these things and their interactions, just Bang, and everything is there so that it can expand and an amazing universe with life can “emerge”. It seems like a giant leap. There are so many unanswered questions. One that I asked myself was why it was not extremely ordered so that it expanded in an ordered matrix. Then galaxies and stars would not form. Scientists proposed that quantum field randomness would have an effect.

I have seen no hypothesis that deals with the beginning of infinity as I have done. I assume that is because it is seen as too philosophically speculative, and hence a waste of time. Equal amounts of matter and anti-matter should have formed and canceled each other out. Why did that not happen? Why have ghostly entities such as “dark matter” and “dark energy” been proposed to account for cosmic anomalies? The intrinsic qualities of carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen and other elements are such that protein folding can take place to sustain life. How life just took another giant leap into self-replication is another mystery.
One can disregard God and yet still compare this sudden appearance of everything needed for our universe neatly compacted into a tiny point as equivalent to a watch magically appearing on a beach or a Boeing 707 magically self-assembling in the desert. I find it necessary to explore the possibilities of what came before the Big Bang, rather than just say there was nothing before the Big Bang because time did not exist.

A Cosmic Mind from Basic Nothingness: A simpler hypothesis is that simple entities that have properties of brain neurons pop into existence in their own (infinite) region. Call them “neuralons” for want of a better name. These make many connections to other neuralons. Each neuralon can have different states. The state is determined by the states of other connected neuralons and how many connections there are. As these pop into existence and grow to fill the infinite region, the randomness principle gives random states, random connection strengths, and random interactions. At some point, a group of neuralons achieves basic intelligence, and the desire to expand by incorporating all other neuralons into their orderly network. The entire region becomes an infinitely large intelligence. The Cosmic Mind is created from Barely Nothingness.

Uh oh. Just like the Big Bang smacked of a “universe creation event” and horrified scientists, this now smacks of a “God creation event”. However, it is not God. It is amoral. It is self-aware and has an infinite capacity for thought. The neuralons exist without limitations of the speed of light, and thought is instantaneous at all points. Like logic, each “state” follows from the previous “state”. Such a Mind would be alone. Maybe it is bored and so “dreams” up alternative universes to entertain itself. If so, we are in a simulation, and it is the ultimate game. The simulation is not restrained by the Laws of Physics that have been applied in the dream game. The size and speed of the Cosmic mind mean that each particle and field can be simulated with precision. It may not be necessary to do so, because it could simulate everything but Earth on a macro scale like the simulations run by humans.
It seems strange that a complex interaction of elemental things, each like a junction in a computer chip, can give rise to intelligence. The brain, when seen as a machine, has the same properties according to the physics-only reality. It may be that the Cosmic mind came about quite differently, but I am trying to use the same reasoning and logic used by scientists to present an alternative hypothesis that allows for the supernatural.

Comparison of the Two: My first thought is to invoke “Occam’s Razor”. The Cosmic Mind is simpler. One entity (neuralon) at a time can be created randomly, compared to an extremely complex singularity containing every particle and force in just the right amount and arrangement. There is one undeniable fact. We think therefore we are. This implies that intelligence wants to emerge. We now know that computing machines, like Turing machines, can be very simple arrangements. All that is required is to massively scale up in size and speed.
I have been challenged by experiencing events that challenge the laws of physics. When others learn of these, many start with the assumption that the laws of physics are unbreakable and absolute. This invokes the principle of evidence. Can one prove that a Cosmic Mind exists? I say that there is more evidence for such a hypothesis than for a physical universe from nothing.
…
Variation on Origin of a Cosmic Mind: It is also possible that the Cosmic Mind is the only entity that exists and has always existed. That it is the Prime Cause and does not need an explanation as to how it came about.
…
Evidence: There are arguments to support a Cosmic Mind illusion.
- Problems with scientific theories and laws.
- The Cosmic Mind could tell us and give clues and hints.
- Credible paranormal events and glitches in reality.
- Provable, recorded, and undeniable miracles.
